My Host Mother Died; My Real Mother Found An Email From Her

30.10.2009

I read an email from a dead person today
she sent it to my parents a long time ago while I was living with her
I called her “mama” but she wasn’t my real mother
now she’s a dead person, probably rotting,
probably not much of a ‘person’ anymore
in the biological sense

I think it’s weird to be able to read
emails from dead people
kinda like correspondence, but 2k(x) style.
Made me think that it’s weird that
we read the letters of dead people sometimes.
Is there a way to ‘throw my emails in the fire’
so they won’t be around when I die?
Don’t think so,
Google will always know

Dear Christine and Leo,

after about a month with [Keith] I would like to tell you a little about
how we feel about him. It is great  to have [Keith] here and we have
come to like him very much.. He is discovering all kinds of freedoms
that he doesn`t have in the states and he is enjoying them. He is
getting along very well with our son Josh and the two of them do lots
of things together.. In the meantime [Keith] has made friends with other
German students as well. We have the impression that he feels very well
here. Most of the time he speaks English, though. In the last couple of
days I have started to teach him German grammar daily, perhaps this will
make it easier for him to speak German also. He knows a lot and has a
good basic knowledge, but it is certainly easier for him to speak
English since everybody in our family understands him.
We are especially pleased  that he is so open and interested in things.
We enjoy showing him as much as possible about  Germany  and we are also
trying to fulfill some of his wishes .
And we do have a lot of fun together. On the one hand he is very sensible
but on the other hand he can also act like a great child.
I think the phase of adjusting is over now and time will show what he
can do besides going to school.  He must have told you  how much leisure
time he has here and that he spends less time in school than he was used
to at home in the states. This weekend we are having a big Roman Festival
in Aalen, the biggest of its kind in Europe , a must for him to see.
Next wekend we will have some days off ( German National Holiday on
October 3), so we will take the opportunity to go to see Helmut`s
sister`s family in Lingen, Niedersachsen, and to show [Keith] some
interesting places there..
So much for today,
Love Krista
