From 1909-1912 and again in 1915, Prokudin-Gorskii travelled across the Russian Empire, documenting life, landscapes and the work of Russain...

Dear Friends (an apology for poor blogging)
Dear Friends,
I promise that one day I will once again post my current Russian adventures on this site. These tales will have the following themes:
1. What I did in Krasnoyarsk (long overdue) 2. Going to the Banya (public bathhouse) 3. Moscow and hanging out there with other Fulbright folks 4. Something silly about Russia I have written down somewhere (I can’t find the list at the moment)...

Russian dubbing semi-success
So far, droopy the dog is the only actor/cartoon character with a russian voice that authentically imitates the original.
Silly russian girls
Don’t really get this idea that russian girls refer to themselves as ‘single’ even though they have a ‘boyfriend’ just because they’re not ‘married’.
Sometimes I feel as though I’m trapped in Kafka’s The Trial, considering the ridiculous amount of bureaucracy I just had to go through in order to obtain a book from the international education department.

Mix CDs for Russian Students (a tale of hipster...
Last week my teacher asked me to give a lesson in our English class about entertainment and music in America. More speficially (and surprisingly) she asked me if I listened to indie music and if I knew what that was. I took a quick moment to look down at my plaid shirt and skinny jeans and realized that either: a. she was a fan of Look At That Fucking Hipster b. somehow divined fromt the celestial...
